Former Sheffield Wednesday Captain Don Megson has “peacefully passed” at the age of 86, as revealed by Alan Biggs on Twitter on behalf of the family.
Biggs called Megson “an inspiring leader and a driving left back, one of the top players in the land.”

Some highlights of his time at the club include finishing as the runners up in Division One in 1961, captaining the club during its FA Cup final in 1966, and a 1st leg 3-2 win over Barcelona in the Europe Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
A statement from Sheffield Wednesday described him as “a leader like no other.” Wednesday said: “[We] are saddened to learn of the passing of legendary former club captain Don Megson.”
“The all-time Wednesday great has passed away at the age of 86.”
Megson also played for Bristol Rovers F.C., who he later managed as well as AFC Bournemouth and Portland Timbers.
