Community Transport providers across South Yorkshire are offering a free door-to-door transportation service to COVID vaccination sites<\/a> for vulnerable people unable to access mainstream public transport.<\/p>\n

The service, which is offered on a first-come-first serve basis, aims to contribute to the region\u2019s vaccine effort by helping the vulnerable receive their COVID-19 jab.<\/p>\n

Tim Taylor, Director of Customer Services at South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, said:<\/a> \u201cNo one should miss the chance to have the vaccine because they have difficulty travelling to the vaccination site.\u201d<\/p>\n

On 6 February according to ITV news<\/a>, a total of 1,595,844 doses have been administered across the North East and Yorkshire \u2013 that\u2019s 1,519,871 who have had their first doses and 75,973 who have had their second doses.<\/p>\n

Mr Taylor continued: \u201cCommunity Transport operators have been providing a limited Dial-a-Ride service for essential trips, so, we decided to use this vital resource to support people in need across South Yorkshire and make a contribution to the region\u2019s vaccination effort.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Community Transport providers across the region use fully accessible vehicles and pick passengers up directly from their homes.<\/p>\n

Service users are advised to arrange the door-to-door service well in advance, at least two days before the journey by calling their local provider once they have their vaccination appointment.<\/p>\n
