{"id":32314,"date":"2021-02-25T13:04:59","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T13:04:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shefnews.co.uk\/?p=32314"},"modified":"2021-02-25T13:04:59","modified_gmt":"2021-02-25T13:04:59","slug":"popular-vintage-shop-cow-shut-down-in-sheffield-city-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/02\/25\/popular-vintage-shop-cow-shut-down-in-sheffield-city-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Popular vintage shop &#8216;Cow&#8217; shut down in Sheffield city centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest loss to our high street is Cow, a thrift store loved by students and a favourite among all vintage shoppers.<\/p>\n<p>The branch, located on 156-160 West Street was popular for their 100% ethically sourced vintage and reworked garments from the 70\u2019s, 80\u2019s 90\u2019s and 00\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Across the competitive network of vintage shops in Sheffield city centre, Cow has always been a front runner with one of the best selections of sustainable fashion at affordable prices.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32273\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32273\" class=\"wp-image-32273 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2021\/02\/Cow--300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-32273\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Popular vintage shop shut down on West Street<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In a Facebook post addressing their customers, the owners said: \u201cYou will always be our lil cowboys and cowgirls and we will miss all the lovely customers that have supported us throughout the years, we are forever grateful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re staying optimistic for the future and hopefully we will back again, but for now, this is goodbye.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The economic backlash from the past year has hit Sheffield city centre where other valued independent businesses like Sheffield Scene have been forced to shut down.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32275\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32275\" class=\"wp-image-32275 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2021\/02\/Shef-scene-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-32275\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Iconic Sheffield shop &#8216;no longer viable&#8217; due to coronavirus pandemic<\/p><\/div>\n<p>However, a representative for Cow has said: \u201cWe can confirm that the closure was due to &#8216;unforeseen circumstances&#8217; that are nothing to do with COVID-19 or lockdown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not allowed to disclose any other information at this time because it is still really raw for the company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cow branch in Sheffield was one of the original &#8216;We are Cow&#8217; stores and has been on West Street for over 10 years.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32274\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32274\" class=\"wp-image-32274 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2021\/02\/cow-shut-down-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-32274\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cow has closed due to &#8216;unforeseen circumstances&#8217;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Carly Bown, 20, a student from Sheffield, who regularly shopped at Cow in pre-COVID times, said: \u201cIt\u2019s a massive shame to see that Cow is shutting down and it\u2019s a huge loss for the vintage shopping scene in Sheffield. It will be missed by a lot of students\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt shows that our small and independent businesses need lots of support when they reopen because they are what makes our city unique and quirky.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recent years have seen a shift in consumer mentality in the fashion industry whereby lots of shoppers are now more concerned about the origins of their clothes and the sustainability of their wardrobes.<\/p>\n<p>In line with current global climate commitments, buying second hand from thrift stores instead of buying into fast fashion trends through online retailers will make a big difference in our ability to meet climate targets.<\/p>\n<p>The survival of vintage and thrift shops is also vitally important for the protection of Sheffield\u2019s high streets and the jobs of local people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest loss to our high street is Cow, a thrift store loved by students and a favourite among all vintage shoppers.
