{"id":33475,"date":"2021-03-11T12:12:43","date_gmt":"2021-03-11T12:12:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shefnews.co.uk\/?p=33475"},"modified":"2021-03-11T12:12:43","modified_gmt":"2021-03-11T12:12:43","slug":"four-year-old-girl-to-cycle-100-miles-for-mental-health-awareness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/03\/11\/four-year-old-girl-to-cycle-100-miles-for-mental-health-awareness\/","title":{"rendered":"Four-year-old girl to cycle 100 miles for mental health awareness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A four-year-old Barnsley girl is taking on the challenge of cycling 100 miles throughout March and April to raise awareness and funds for the charity Rethink Mental Health.<\/p>\n<p>Chelsea Ellis, from Kendray, has managed to raise \u00a3350 so far after making pictures with uplifting messages and numbers for different helplines to put up around the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_33523\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33523\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-33523\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2021\/03\/kelseycards-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Chelsea Ellis's cards with helpline numbers\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-33523\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chelsea&#8217;s uplifting and informational cards<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Chelsea is inspired by her own mother\u2019s struggles. Keeley Ellis, 26, a law student, struggled with poor mental health and substance abuse as a teenager and had to go to a crisis shelter because of it. Rethink Mental Illness was there for her through that trying time.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cI explained to her that sometimes when people feel sad, they need a bit of help getting better. Even though I don\u2019t need their services anymore, I know others do and I want them to know the support is available.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The happy little girl, who hates the idea of being sad and wanted to do something to spread a bit of joy in the community, said: &#8220;I want to help people like mummy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chelsea recently learned how to ride her bike without stabilisers and this was the perfect time to practice her new skills.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-33505\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2021\/03\/chelseabike-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The pair are also planning a socially distanced Easter Egg hunt in Locke Park, Barnsley on 3 April. They plan on printing a list of activities for kids.
