Laptop For Kids have joined forces with South Yorkshire to buy nearly 7,000 devices for children.<\/p>\n
Dell Technologies have given the charity laptops to help provide for children who are unable to attend school remotely during the pandemic.<\/p>\n
Before, local residents in Sheffield were encouraged to donate unused electronic devices for underprivileged children.<\/p>\n
Technology entrepreneur and co founder of the campaign, David Richards, said: \u201cWe applaud local government leaders in South Yorkshire for stepping up to meet the need and invest in the next generation of successful young people.\u201d<\/p>\n
The campaign was launched in Sheffield in response to the number of children who were unable to take part in online lessons within South Yorkshire.<\/p>\n
Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield Council are working together with schools to help distribute these devices across their local communities.<\/p>\n
Mr Richards, said: \u201cChildren must be able to safely access technology at home so they can keep up with their education and develop digital skills for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Youths in the Sheffield City Region have been hit hard by COVID-19, with many experiencing almost a year of disruption to their learning.<\/p>\n
By Rotherham council teaming up with Laptop for Kids, 500 more laptops have been provided for children in Rotherham, bringing the total of number of children receiving a laptop for remote learning, to more than 2000.<\/p>\n
Mother and freelance journalist, Mel Hart, said: \u201cNot everyone is properly equipped for online learning, especially if you have more than just one child who needs to access remote learning at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n
AESSEAL, a global manufacturing group located in Rotherham, have helped connect 10,000 households to the internet by donating \u00a3100,000 dongles. The local employer have also donated a total of 2,000 laptops to help local school children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
