A barmaid from Doncaster vowed to complete a 500-mile trek to raise cash for a cancer charity, so it can continue its vital support for cancer patients during the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Amelia Davey, set herself the mammoth task of walking over 16 miles a day for 31 days, which is the equivalent length of 19 London marathons throughout March.<\/p>\n

Ms Davey, pledged to raise \u00a31,000 for Firefly, a charity which helps support cancer patients by offering free transport from Doncaster to hospitals in Sheffield.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cAs I\u2019m sure you can imagine it\u2019s very exhausting, my feet hurt, my knees hurt and I have a ridiculous amount of blisters but I didn\u2019t set myself a challenge for it to be easy and I didn\u2019t expect it to be easy either.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old from Finningley, found her passion for walking when she was unable to work after the pandemic hit.<\/p>\n

Ms Davey explained: \u201cFirefly is very close to my heart, so I came up with the idea of using my free time to try help others and raise some money.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cThis means I am very confident I am going to complete the challenge, I\u2019m powering through and so determined to finish.\u201d<\/p>\n

The motivation to start the challenge came from her Grandma, Jane Roberts, 74, who became involved with the charity after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007.<\/p>\n

Ms Davey said: “I\u2019ve been around the charity since I was nine-years-old when my Grandma first got involved. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and thankfully she survived, we are extremely close and she is my biggest inspiration.”<\/p>\n

Chewy Bacchus, 51, who runs the organisation\u2019s fleet of eight transport vehicles was grateful for Ms Davey\u2019s continued loyalty to the charity.<\/p>\n

Mr Bacchus, Director of Firefly, said: \u201cI have known Amelia for over 10 years and I\u2019m very proud of her support to Firefly, after we looked after her Grandma.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole family have been very supportive to the charity and I can\u2019t thank them enough for their continued support.\u201d<\/p>\n

The non-profit organisation solely relies on fundraising events that were cancelled because of the pandemic.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cAs a charity every penny we receive is vital in covering the running costs and the additional cost of PPE. Any fundraising events are greatly appreciated by ourselves and to those that use the service, so we can keep the wheels turning.\u201d<\/p>\n
