Of these, six of them were English Premier League teams.<\/p>\n<p>Many football players, pundits and fans openly displayed their disgust and many saw the decision from these teams as a betrayal to the name of football.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"und\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/X2ZFqJ9T4L\">pic.twitter.com\/X2ZFqJ9T4L<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jordan Henderson (@JHenderson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JHenderson\/status\/1384597901079371778?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 20, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Gary Neville just completely gets it doesn&#39;t he \ud83d\udc4f<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/x6w4ljcOvQ\">pic.twitter.com\/x6w4ljcOvQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; SPORTbible (@sportbible) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sportbible\/status\/1384210234873319427?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 19, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Vayam Lahoti, 18, a Manchester City fan living in Sheffield, said the actions of his club made him feel \u201cutterly embarrassed&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just horrible that fans, some of who\u2019ve been supporting their clubs for decades through thick and thin, have to sit and watch their clubs pay no heed to their feelings,\u201d Vayam said.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThe powers possessed by the billionaire club owners have to be kept in check and while there\u2019s not much action that can be taken against these greedy set of businessmen. FIFA and UEFA have to step in and ensure that something like this can never happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sheffield FC, who were established in 1857 and are known to be the first ever football club, made a statement on Twitter, describing the decision as going \u201cagainst everything that football stands for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe regard ourselves as custodians of the beautiful game, and as such we are deeply concerned about the proposed European Super League and what it means for the future of the sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They reassured their fans and members: \u201cWe are fully committed to preserving the time-honoured values associated with our beloved game, and we will continue to promote Integrity, Respect and Community within football.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Club statement on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/EuropeanSuperLeague?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#EuropeanSuperLeague<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Sheffield Football Club (@sheffieldfc) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sheffieldfc\/status\/1384114562010554372?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 19, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Oliver Dunkley, 24, a Northampton Town fan said the effects of this league on EFL clubs \u201cwould have been absolutely massive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThe EFL, especially league one and two, is mainly just about the fans over money, but these clubs still need money to survive.
