{"id":36503,"date":"2021-05-13T09:51:38","date_gmt":"2021-05-13T08:51:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shefnews.co.uk\/?p=36503"},"modified":"2021-05-13T09:51:38","modified_gmt":"2021-05-13T08:51:38","slug":"sheffield-student-rent-strikers-forced-to-leave-arts-tower-after-court-order","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/05\/13\/sheffield-student-rent-strikers-forced-to-leave-arts-tower-after-court-order\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield student rent strikers forced to leave Arts Tower after court order"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students occupying the Arts Tower as part of a rent strike protest have been forced to leave, following a court order.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Sheffield undergraduates had been in the iconic building since 23 April to demand a 30 percent rent rebate and an early-release clause option for contracts.<\/p>\n<p>But a judge ordered they leave the building or risk facing fines and arrests, despite praising their \u201ctenacity\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters represented themselves at the hearing after being unable to find legal support.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Walsh, one of the protesters inside, said: \u201cI feel disheartened we didn\u2019t manage to achieve as much as we wanted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we are still fighting. The rent strike goes on.
