The vaccine rollout has continued in Sheffield with nearly 90 per cent of people over 45 already receiving their first jab.<\/p>\n
As of 2 May, 211,246 (88%) people in that specific age group had been given their first dose, with Yorkshire and the Humber region having one of the highest uptakes in UK at 96%.<\/p>\n
The government have confirmed they are still on track with the vaccine rollout, with all UK adults expected to have had their first dose by the end of July.<\/p>\n
Across the country over 54m vaccine doses have been administered up to the 11 May. With nearly 35.8 million first doses and 18.5 million second doses.<\/p>\n
Chief Executive of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Kirsten Major, told the Sheffield Star: \u201c\u201cWe urge anyone aged 40 or over to book their first dose of the vaccine as soon as they are able. It\u2019s also important that you come back for your second dose of the vaccine to ensure you get full protection.\u201d<\/p>\n
To further aid the vaccine rollout around Sheffield, the Wicker Pharmacy, Page Hall Pharmacy, and Superdrug Barnsley will be able\u00a0 to provide the vaccine from this week.<\/p>\n
Across the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust, on the 4 May, 24 patients were in their hospitals with coronavirus, showing a 45.5% decrease from the last seven days, according to the governments figures.<\/p>\n
Ms Major said: \u201cWe are delighted that the first three local community pharmacies are now on board as this will provide another option for people to get their vaccination.<\/p>\n
