A project is aiming to combat clothing poverty through their new campaign which will be launched next month.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sharewear’s new film will be screened during Clothing Poverty Awareness Week and shown to school children in a bid to help those who can\u2019t afford basic essentials.<\/span><\/p>\n

The move came after a government report revealed <\/span>18 per cent of the population fall into the \u2018relative low income\u2019 bracket<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Emily Hearne, Centre Supervisor of Sharewear Sheffield, who are spearheading the initiative, said: \u201cEveryday is clothing poverty awareness day for us. Everything we do is about shouting the message and making sure people know how many others are struggling.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs a society, we get very complacent and that happens naturally when you know about something already.”<\/span><\/p>\n

She explained although food is a huge focus of poverty and people don\u2019t need clothing to survive, it should be an equal human right.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms Hearne said: \u201cIt\u2019s really hard because Sharewear can\u2019t fix the problem of clothing poverty.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a systemic issue that\u2019s deeply rooted in our country\u2019s politics.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very tumultuous time, politically, and really horrible things are happening to people all over the world, but people are also standing up for what\u2019s right.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She added: \u201cIf you don\u2019t have a coat or suitable footwear, how can you go for a walk? How can you go out when it\u2019s raining? How can you get a job? How can you take your kids to school?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout June, the organisation, which was set up seven years ago, hope to travel around the country to screen their new film.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sharewear\u2019s CEO, Louise Cooke, will also be visiting secondary schools in Nottingham as the organisation believe it is important young people understand the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n

The group have also planned a trip to Bristol, and the screening there is in collaboration with the city\u2019s sustainable fashion and refugee weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier in the year, Sharewear launched their \u2018No Wear to Run\u2019 campaign to raise awareness of\u00a0 the negative impact clothing poverty has on exercise and access to the outdoors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their latest campaign will focus on building a new audience across their social media platforms, as well as engaging those who have supported the initiative since they opened the Sheffield branch at the start of this year.<\/span><\/p>\n
