Ben Barker, 18, a biomedical sciences student, said: \u201cI would go just to see what it\u2019s like, but it doesn\u2019t really seem like somewhere I\u2019ll go every week. Independent places are cheaper so ideal for me as a student.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Saskia Akmene, 23, a retail worker, said it will be good to have a different venue as an option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added: \u201cIt\u2019s something new and a bit more upmarket so I would imagine it\u2019ll be popular. I like West Street, but it gets repetitive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One assistant bar manager at an independent West Street venue said he didn\u2019t see Manahatta as direct competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Matthew Watson, who works at Tigerworks, said: \u201cWest Street is very unique and the independent bars on it are so popular amongst locals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 22-year-old added: \u201cIt would take something massive to take all the students and locals away from it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jamie Salter, a bartender at the newly opened Manahatta, said: \u201cIt will help improve Sheffield\u2019s nightlife because it\u2019s a step up from what we\u2019re used to in terms of quality of service, food and drink, and atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 20-year-old added: \u201cSheffield hasn\u2019t really got many places that are in the same realm as Manahatta and this will benefit Sheffield by creating a new environment and thus a new crowd of people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
