Cycling club Sheffield Urban CX is holding its Park Hill Uprise race this weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will welcome all cyclists from commuters, club riders, junior cyclists and even the Bromptoneers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The short course incorporates challenging hills in a v-shaped route with competitors having three chances to secure a winning time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adam Simmonite, Events Manager for Sheffield Urban CX, has headed the competition which will take place on Saturday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said: \u201cWe like to think obviously you come along as a family and everybody can have a go in the race. It\u2019s quite an inclusive experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith the events obviously being in the heart of the community we want to give back to that community and this is an ideal opportunity to allow us to do that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t run them to make money, we run them to raise awareness of the area and how amazing Sheffield is and like I said, just bring the community together and develop that cycling community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheffield Urban CX had to cancel their last two hill climbs because of low numbers, with 40 riders currently signed up to this weekend\u2019s competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the support of local business Westfield Health, the group have covered all their running costs for this weekend\u2019s race and will donate 100% of the entry fees to charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roundabout and Woodhead Mountain Rescue are the two charities which will receive 50% of the fees each.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily Bush, Roundabout Fundraising Manager, works with the community to support homeless people in Sheffield. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said: “We are so grateful for the support of people in our community. Events like The Park Hill Uprise are not just helping to raise vital funds to support homeless young people across South Yorkshire, but they also raise awareness for our services for those who need them.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The donation from this event and everyone taking part will benefit the 350 young people that we work with across South Yorkshire every single day”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In preparation for the event on Saturday, local volunteer group Good Gym Sheffield banded together with Sheffield Urban CX to clean the cobbles and make the streets race-ready. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom Mutton, Area Activator of Good Gym Sheffield, incorporates exercise and volunteering to help organisations across the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
