{"id":50643,"date":"2023-03-31T14:24:23","date_gmt":"2023-03-31T13:24:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shefnews.co.uk\/?p=50643"},"modified":"2023-03-31T14:24:23","modified_gmt":"2023-03-31T13:24:23","slug":"notorious-restaurant-karens-diner-announces-sponsorship-of-sheffield-football-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/03\/31\/notorious-restaurant-karens-diner-announces-sponsorship-of-sheffield-football-team\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Notorious restaurant Karen\u2019s Diner announces sponsorship of Sheffield football team<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Karen\u2019s Diner is normally known for its ill-mannered waiting staff, but its manager hopes to show another side of the restaurant through their new sponsorship.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The diner will work alongside Sheffield City Lionesses Football Club, which recently underwent a significant rebranding following its creation in 2020.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karen&#8217;s will not lose its trademark charm of insulting paying customers; employees will attend matches and shout rude remarks from the sidelines.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Venue manager Lisa Cholerton said: \u201cMy first initial thinking was that it would be good for us as Karen\u2019s Diner to be seen to be giving back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I wanted to make sure that people knew that we provide a theatrical experience &#8211; it doesn\u2019t mean we\u2019re all bitches and we don\u2019t care about the community we\u2019re in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt would be good to get the club noticed and for us to watch some of the games, get some videos, do some little skits.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chairman of the club, Ash Greenwood, explained that Sheffield City has been going through a rebuild of its female sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of this involved changing the team\u2019s name from Sheffield City FC to Sheffield City Lionesses, which Greenwood felt was &#8220;more of an attractive name for branding purposes&#8221;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arranging the sponsorship was initially an uphill battle, with a number of phone calls eventually culminating in a deal just before Christmas 2022.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was not until the past week that employees of Karen\u2019s Diner visited Olympic Legacy Park, the home of the club.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2023\/03\/karensdiner2-980x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50645\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Greenwood continued: \u201cIt\u2019s different, obviously getting this sponsorship. We probably have ruffled a few feathers in Sheffield this week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLooking at the bigger picture, the brand Karen\u2019s Diner has been brilliant with us. They are really supportive, not just of the women\u2019s game but of the club as a whole. Showing them round, they were blown away by it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement comes at a perfect time for the restaurant as it approaches its one year anniversary.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m absolutely thrilled,\u201d said Chorleton. \u201cI was there from the beginning and we just didn\u2019t know how it was going to take off &#8211; it was the first one in the UK and we just weren\u2019t sure how it would be responded to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe fact that we\u2019re now coming up to a year and we\u2019ve got all these birthday plans in place for next week is amazing.
