Sheffield Supertram is changing to a new operator after 29 years, marking the end of it being operated under Stagecoach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From Friday 22 March, Stagecoach tickets will no longer be accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New ticket prices have been released and are set to take effect from 29 March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Julie Platts, 54, a legal officer at BT, said: \u201cIt just stings that they\u2019ve put the price up a lot, now that everything\u2019s price is going up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Most ticket prices have gone up by at least 50p, and for the Gold 7-day MegaRider, the price has gone up by 3 pounds, from \u00a328 to \u00a331.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Due to the ongoing cost of living crisis, the rise in tram ticket prices is not being welcomed by the residents of Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mac Smith, 26, a paramedic student from Sheffield: \u201cIt\u2019s bad that the prices have gone up. I use the trams to go to my placement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I used to go to Middlewood for 50p about 10 years ago. Now it\u2019s 2.40, it\u2019s quite a bit up already.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tickets can be purchased via a new app, from a SYMCA ticket vending machine, or on tram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Any ticket bought before 21 March will remain valid until its expiration date, including Sheffield student, bus, and tram MegaRider and South Yorkshire Child bus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stagecoach is not refunding gold or silver tickets as they can still be used to travel as normal on Stagecoach buses, and they recommend using the ticket to travel on both bus and tram before 22 March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All bus tickets are not affected, holding at \u00a32.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are no plans in changing staff and timetables, but there will be changes to where to buy tram tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
