A Barnsley man who was caught by officers throwing class A drugs over a garden fence has appeared before Sheffield Crown Court for sentencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jordan Jackson, 26, of Elm Street, Hoyland, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison after officers from the Barnsley South Neighbourhood Team witnessed his attempt to discard his stash of heroin in his garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The footage of him trying to outwit the officers was captured on body cameras recording the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police have said Jackson began to cry upon realising he had been caught in the act, but later claimed he didn\u2019t remember telling officers that the package contained drugs because he was \u2018too emotional”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following his arrest, Jackson answered no comment throughout his interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sergeant David Wilks from the Barnsley South NPT said: \u201cI hope Jackson\u2019s sentence highlights that those who think they\u2019re above the law and can outwit officers will be punished, but I also hope it demonstrates to our communities that we will take action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: \u201cAlthough it may not feel like we act on intelligence straight away, all information shared with us enables us to build a bigger picture and understanding, so we strike at the right time and have the compelling evidence we need to put forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe will work with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council to temporarily or permanently close properties to reduce drug use and anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
