{"id":55939,"date":"2024-02-23T12:15:47","date_gmt":"2024-02-23T12:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/?p=55939"},"modified":"2024-02-23T13:55:23","modified_gmt":"2024-02-23T13:55:23","slug":"sheffield-road-resurfacing-plans-resumed-after-years-of-delays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/02\/23\/sheffield-road-resurfacing-plans-resumed-after-years-of-delays\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield road resurfacing plans resumed after years of delays"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Consultations about the resurfacing of more than 20 Sheffield roads have been resumed after being put on hold for seven years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Protests held in 2017 in opposition of the council&#8217;s scheme to remove thousands of trees to improve road conditions saw an end to the plans the following year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then, multiple roads in Sheffield have been left in an uneven, heavily-potholed state of disrepair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The roads are in a horrendous state,&#8221; said Liberal-Democrat Councillor for Ecclesall, Barbara Masters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;They make it very difficult for anyone who relies on wheels, whether it&#8217;s a car or a mobility scooter.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First in line for the resurfacing programme is Dunkeld Road, followed by Silver Hill and Banner Cross Roads, all in the Ecclesall area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked for a timeframe in which Dunkeld Road residents can expect work to be finished by, Coun Barbara Masters said: &#8220;We have to wait for the outcome of the consultation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If the consultation comes back with general approval then work could begin this year.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She went on to say that she had been assured that the road would be done by Spring next year at the latest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"489\" src=\"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1.jpeg\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is IMG_0871.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-56143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1-480x367.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 640px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A resident of Silver Hill Road said: &#8220;It&#8217;s been a long time coming, because we&#8217;ve waited for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;One of the proposals was to bring out the footpath partly into the road which I don&#8217;t see as an issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There are going to be some restrictions on parking because you&#8217;ll reduce the availability or whatever. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I don\u2019t mind them taking the footpath out into the road, I just wish they\u2019d get on with resurfacing because it looks scruffy.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With concerns for tree welfare, Coun Masters has said that the council is now being &#8216;ultra cautious&#8217; about how they are proceeding, and that unless a tree becomes dangerous it will remain how it is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drop-in sessions are being held at Ecclesall Library in its community room on the following dates, to which residents of the affected streets are encouraged to attend: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tuesday 27 February (4pm-8:30pm)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thursday 29 February (4pm-8:30pm)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saturday 2 March (10am-3:30pm)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ecclesall road resurfacing plans are back on track after being put on hold for seven years<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":637,"featured_media":56037,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[415,41,1196,21,16],"tags":[324,15,38,141],"class_list":["post-55939","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-community","category-environment","category-front-page-highlights","category-news","category-top-stories","tag-ecclesall","tag-news","tag-sheffield","tag-sheffield-city-council"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.1.1 -
