{"id":57207,"date":"2024-03-08T10:09:32","date_gmt":"2024-03-08T10:09:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/?p=57207"},"modified":"2024-04-26T09:16:02","modified_gmt":"2024-04-26T09:16:02","slug":"man-set-to-run-sheffield-half-marathon-for-sister-with-cerebral-palsy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/03\/08\/man-set-to-run-sheffield-half-marathon-for-sister-with-cerebral-palsy\/","title":{"rendered":"Man set to run Sheffield Half Marathon for sister with Cerebral Palsy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Pierce Roberts, 21, from Horham is set to run the Sheffield half marathon on April 7 for the charity Scope.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scope is a disability equality charity in England and Wales that aims to provide practical and emotional support for disabled people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pierce has decided to run the marathon for Scope as: \u201cThe charity is pretty close to home as my sister Holly has cerebral palsy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cI want to raise more awareness for scope as I find not many people actually know what Scope is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPersonally me and my family haven\u2019t had to use the charity for my sister however I can understand how less fortunate people can use Scope so I just want to help someone who really does need it.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scope are striving for a society whereby all disabled people can enjoy equality and fairness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has a set goal of \u00a3400 on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/sheffield-half-marathon-to-raise-money-for-scope??_gl=1*tkzoih*_up*MQ..&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiAi6uvBhADEiwAWiyRdrtDCIauDQvDmNVEWh2w33Iutq4lY5NItApoNXVz4jV4pHKKJ7kUfRoCKDkQAvD_BwE\" title=\"GoFundMe \">GoFundMe <\/a>and is currently on \u00a3280.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pierce has never participated in any charity fundraising event before but has been dedicating his free time to train for the half marathon.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve always wanted to do something fundraising wise before but I\u2019ve never really had the opportunity so this is the big goal at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is currently training three times a week, increasing the intensity of his runs throughout the week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn Mondays I run a 5k on Wednesdays I do a more intense run and on the weekend I\u2019ll try my best to do a longer run so I\u2019m really just throwing myself in the deep end here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI definitely think that the Sheffield half marathon is a perfect opportunity to do something for charity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is so much stuff going on in the world, unfortunately, it\u2019s hard to really pick one charity but do it for something that you love, for yourself or for someone that you care about&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d say for anyone wanting to do something for charity is to just do it, get the form, get the ticket and just do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019d be able to run a half marathon if I wasn\u2019t doing it for a good cause.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pierce Roberts, 21, from Horham is set to run the Sheffield half marathon on April 7 for the charity Scope.\u00a0 Scope is a disability equality charity in England and Wales that aims to provide practical and emotional support for disabled people.
