{"id":57303,"date":"2024-03-08T11:42:33","date_gmt":"2024-03-08T11:42:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/?p=57303"},"modified":"2024-03-08T15:07:54","modified_gmt":"2024-03-08T15:07:54","slug":"sheffields-inclusive-cycling-project-celebrates-national-lottery-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/03\/08\/sheffields-inclusive-cycling-project-celebrates-national-lottery-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield&#8217;s inclusive cycling project celebrates National Lottery Week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffieldcycling4all.org\/\" title=\"\">Sheffield Cycling 4 All<\/a>, a project run by Disability Sheffield, is marking National Lottery week with a celebration of inclusivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project offers 12 sessions a week at Hillsborough Park, Monday to Thursday, tailored for adults with disabilities or long-term health conditions who cannot ride a two wheel cycle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These sessions will be free from March 11 &#8211; 14, to thank the National Lottery for being their majority funder for the last 4 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">To celebrate National Lottery Open Week and as a way of showing our appreciation for our Lottery funding, we are offering free cycling all week in Hillsborough Park from 11th March to 14th March.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/46ejnlViGn\">https:\/\/t.co\/46ejnlViGn<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NatLotteryWeek?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NatLotteryWeek<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TNLUK?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@tnluk<\/a><\/p>&mdash; SheffieldCycling4All (@cycling4_all) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cycling4_all\/status\/1757091903311372363?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 12, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosemary Hill, one of the project coordinators, said: \u201cWe create an environment that means that people aren\u2019t disabled by their surroundings.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project believes in the social model of disability, which says a person is disabled by their environment, not their impairment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added: \u201cThe world needs to be adapted to humans, not the other way round.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheffield Cycling 4 All also does campaign work to reduce the barriers affecting disabled people and those with long-term health conditions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They would like to see Sheffield become more accessible to Disabled cyclists, as well as generate more awareness that cycling is an option for almost everyone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosemary said: \u201cIt\u2019s interesting that people\u2019s perception is that they can\u2019t cycle. We\u2019re here to say we think you can.
