Sheffield Steelers were crowned Challenge Cup champions, following a 3-1 victory against Guildford Flames. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last night’s victory marks the sixth time they have won the Challenge Cup<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Goals from Brien Diffley, Patrick Watling, Mitchell Balmas helped the Steelers claim their sixth Challenge Cup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over 8,000 Steelers fans celebrated their triumph against Guildford last night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Angus Paddison, a Sheffield Steelers fan said: \u201cIt\u2019s massive for the club to be back on winning ways. After so many years trophyless, to regain silverware will inject the club with plenty of momentum going into the end of the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe atmosphere in the Utilita was absolutely electric last night, maybe the best I\u2019ve ever experienced. It was a night that\u2019ll stay in my mind for the longest time.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head coach Aaron Fox took the victory for the second time in five years after winning in Cardiff in March 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Guildford were beaten in their second Challenge Cup final in five years. Steelers are first in the Elite League Standings after amassing 34 wins with 9 games left to play.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fox said: “What a night, it was a huge effort from everybody. It’s really good, this is why we play the game. I felt like we hadn’t lived up to expectations the last few years so we appreciate all the support we get from the fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Captain Robert Dowd lifted the trophy at the Utilita Arena Sheffield, his first since being appointed captain in the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
