Councillor Fran Belbin said: \u201cThe lack of access to suitable period products is a significant issue for far too many women, girls and people who menstruate within the city.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A draft of the \u2018Period Equity and Menopause\u2019 charter was approved by Sheffield City Council<\/a> on Tuesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative aims to support all those who menstruate, along with efforts to provide free period products at schools and workplaces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Ben Miskell said: \u201cWe as men shouldn’t shy away from being proper allies and backing girls and women and all those who menstruate.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chella Quint, founder of \u2018Period Positive<\/a>\u2019, an organisation which works in partnership with the council, called for improvements to the draft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These include environmental consciousness, inclusive language and acknowledgment of voluntary partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Quint said: \u201cWe were surprised to see that the draft charter still didn\u2019t address some of our initial concerns.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The council approved the draft charter on the basis that it will be adapted accordingly once the comments have been reflected upon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
