In a poignant blend of artistry and advocacy, Sheffield University’s Performing Arts Society (SUPAS) take to the stage with their rendition of Made in Dagenham: The Musical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, this dynamic production delves into the heart of a pivotal moment in history: the fight for women’s equal pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The protest, spearheaded by Rose Boland, Eileen Pullen, Vera Sime, Gwen Davis, Violet Dawson, and Sheila Douglass, inspired female sewing machinists at Ford Motor Company Limited’s Dagenham facility in London to go on strike, later joined by those at Ford’s Halewood Body and Assembly plant. These women were primarily responsible for crafting car seat covers, and as supplies depleted, the strike progressively led to a cessation of all car manufacturing activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eve Catanach, a second year English student at the University of Sheffield, directs and brings to life the courageous spirit of the women who dared to challenge the status quo. Through captivating performances and storytelling, they illuminate the struggles, triumphs, and enduring relevance of the battle for gender equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
