{"id":60800,"date":"2024-05-09T13:58:32","date_gmt":"2024-05-09T13:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/?p=60800"},"modified":"2024-05-09T17:18:49","modified_gmt":"2024-05-09T17:18:49","slug":"senior-coroner-delivers-fantastic-bereavement-talk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/05\/09\/senior-coroner-delivers-fantastic-bereavement-talk\/","title":{"rendered":"Senior Coroner delivers &#8216;fantastic&#8217; bereavement talk"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today, in the Medio-Legal Centre Coroner\u2019s Court on Watery Street, a talk with the Senior Coroner for South Yorkshire (West), Mrs. Tanyka Rawden took place.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It ran from 9.30am to 12pm and aimed to share the role of the Coroner and the inquest process with the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bob Swarbrick, Management Trainee and one of the organisers for today&#8217;s event, says: \u201cDeath will affect everyone and we\u2019re dealing with vulnerable times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOften after the death of loved ones, it\u2019s difficult to make decisions especially when you don\u2019t know what we do and that can be stressful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was run by Sheffield City Council\u2019s Bereavement and Coronial Services, who were initially approached by Compassionate Sheffield to host a few events, to highlight the importance of the Coroner<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Medico-legal-centre.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-60802\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Medico-legal-centre.png 800w, https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Medico-legal-centre-480x360.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 800px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Around 36% of deaths are reported to and investigated by the Coroner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Swarbrick says: \u201cWe were delighted with the turnout and over 50 people attended the talk. Everyone was interested and we\u2019re all looking forward to our next event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compassionate Sheffield, formed in 2021 as part of the city\u2019s <em>Health and Wellbeing Strategy, <\/em>runs the festival. It is composed of more than 40 free events being held across Sheffield over May.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They manage 16 cemeteries and two crematoriums, with their next event being held at City Road Cemetery for a tour for members of the public on the 28th.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He says: \u201cWe want to improve our external relationships and this festival really helps us make a connection to the public.
