Pro Palestine protestors gathered outside Sheffield Town hall as the new Lord Mayor was sworn in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Jayne Dunn was voted as the new Lord Mayor at Sheffield City Council\u2019s annual general meeting on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protest outside the building sought to remind the council of their cause and raise awareness with the general public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They seek to raise awareness of the war in Gaza and the suffering experienced by Palestinians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheffield City Council has not yet commented on Wednesday\u2019s protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This took place on the 76th anniversary of the Nakba day referring to the Arab-Israeli war and the mass displacement of Palestinian people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Nakba\u2019 is an Arabic term that translates to \u2018catastrophe\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Protesters at the rally said they wanted Palestinians to receive the same treatment as Ukrainian refugees by both local and national government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This protest came on the same day as a student campaign group began a sit-in at The Diamond, a University of Sheffield building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shefnews went down to the rally outside the town hall and spoke with some of the people protesting, including a campaigner with Palestinian heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
