This construction will take place between February and March and will eventually replace the pavement outside the city hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe title=\"[ Sheffield construction overview]\" aria-label=\"Locator map\" id=\"datawrapper-chart-YtSRW\" src=\"https:\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/YtSRW\/1\/\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"width: 0; min-width: 100% !important; border: none;\" height=\"520\" data-external=\"1\"><\/iframe><script type=\"text\/javascript\">!function(){\"use strict\";window.addEventListener(\"message\",(function(a){if(void 0!==a.data[\"datawrapper-height\"]){var e=document.querySelectorAll(\"iframe\");for(var t in a.data[\"datawrapper-height\"])for(var r=0;r<e.length;r++)if(e[r].contentWindow===a.source){var i=a.data[\"datawrapper-height\"][t]+\"px\";e[r].style.height=i}}}))}();\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018Connecting Sheffield; city centre project\u2019 means that further construction will be taking place in the city centre on top of the \u00a3470 million \u2018Heart of the City\u2019 renovation which has been in process over the last few years and covered 1.5 million sq ft of development.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim of the project is to improve the connectability between the city's new infrastructure and encourage businesses to expand further into outdoor spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking back in October, Councillor Ben Miskell, Chair of the Transport committee at Sheffield City Council said: \u201cSheffield is changing. It\u2019s transforming into an incredible city offering something for everyone whether you\u2019re a resident here or visiting from further afield. This investment will contribute further to the ongoing transformation of our cleaner, greener, more thriving city centre.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the ongoing construction of the city centre will prolong traffic disruption and obstruction to accessing the city\u2019s centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City centre business owner, Sam Orwell, said the ongoing construction work was \"bittersweet\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \"The work is obviously a bit of an eyesore but if it does bring in more business and foot traffic then hopefully it will be all worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" charset=\"utf-8\" src=\"https:\/\/secure.polldaddy.com\/p\/15055715.js\"><\/script> <noscript><a href=\"https:\/\/poll.fm\/15055715\">How do you view the ongoing construction in the city centre?<\/a><\/noscript>\n\n\n\n<p>South Yorkshire Mayor, Oliver Coppard who approved the \u2018Connecting Sheffield\u2019 as part of a larger South Yorkshire project, said the aim of the project was \"building a healthier, wealthier and happier South Yorkshire is central to my ambition\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheffield City Council has confirmed that the project is expected to finish in May.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Construction has finally begun on the city&#8217;s \u00a321 million project to improve transport and pedestrian infrastructure in Sheffield\u2019s city centre with neighbouring South Yorkshire cities.
