Sheffield City Council took ownership of the Adelphi cinema and is intending to turn the building into a new centre for the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The council have secured \u00a34 million of government funds for the restoration which would house leisure, arts and music activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The old cinema first must be cleared inside and out before any renovations take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first phase is expected to be completed by summer 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Adelphi opened in 1920 and operated as a cinema for 50 years and survived damage from World War II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From 2006 to 2013 the building was left vacant and, until present, has been used for storage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The original design of the outside of the building will be retained throughout the refurbishment, allowing the stunning front to remain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
