{"id":62768,"date":"2025-02-28T14:57:22","date_gmt":"2025-02-28T14:57:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/?p=62768"},"modified":"2025-03-05T10:15:39","modified_gmt":"2025-03-05T10:15:39","slug":"vile-closure-of-sheffield-nursery-is-leaving-43-children-without-quality-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2025\/02\/28\/vile-closure-of-sheffield-nursery-is-leaving-43-children-without-quality-care\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Vile&#8217; closure of Sheffield nursery is leaving 43 children without quality care"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A popular community nursery is being forced to close in just eight days time after 30 years of caring for toddlers in Longley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St Leonard&#8217;s Nursery has been based at the church on Everingham Road since 1995.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saint Leonard\u2019s Church Norwood has issued the nursery with a four-week notice to vacate the space but has yet to comment on what it will be used for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lynne Cottam, 50, the manager of St Leonard&#8217;s Nursery has said: \u201cWe are devastated to see the nursery close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cParents depend on us and as do our SEN children who rely on continuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe keep asking the church for a compromise but they aren\u2019t willing to negotiate or communicate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"536\" src=\"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/bees-1024x536.jpg\" alt=\"Children playing a bee themed game similar to Kerplunk. The children's faces are obstructed.\" class=\"wp-image-62774\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/bees-980x513.jpg 980w, https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/bees-480x251.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The closure means all eight staff members are losing their jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Cottam said: \u201cOur last hire was over eight years ago, we\u2019ve all been working together for years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re like a little family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A parent from the nursery, who did not wish to be named, said: \u201cThe closure is vile. Giving&nbsp; four weeks notice with no explanation is shocking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLosing five months of crucial learning will make my son fall behind massively.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St Leonard&#8217;s recently received a \u2018good\u2019 OFSTED review and has been praised on social media in recent days for its amazing service to children and parents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Becca Ellen Reynolds, a parent at the nursery, said: \u201cMy daughter has made so many friends at St Leonard&#8217;s.
