Following its success, the campaign was launched this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3voNrrDSTjo?si=H5D_UDacZguiKoYw\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>The animation has also been selected for the London International Animation Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Led by Barnsley Recovery Steps and funded by Barnsley City Council, the initiative aims to challenge misconceptions, reduce stigma, and connect people with specialist support services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ketamine, originally developed as a horse tranquilizer and anaesthetic, is a licensed medication that can be prescribed for medical purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, when abused, it can cause severe and sometimes permanent damage to the bladder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign comes as ketamine use reaches record levels, with an estimated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/statistics\/substance-misuse-treatment-for-young-people-2023-to-2024\/children-and-young-peoples-substance-misuse-treatment-statistics-2023-to-2024-report\">269,000 people aged 16-59 reporting use in the year ending March 2024.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amid growing concerns, the Home Office is considering upgrading the Class B drug to Class A status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/21950221\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/visualisation\/21950221\/thumbnail\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"chart visualization\" \/><\/noscript><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>James Pierce, Pharmacy and Community Outreach Worker at Barnsley Recovery Steps, said: &nbsp;&#8220;Even short-term, regular use can damage the bladder and kidneys and have a dramatic impact on mental health. Ketamine can seriously impact people\u2019s quality of life, both physically and mentally.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To support those affected, the next 6 weeks of the campaign are set to provide handbooks and digital resources for both ketamine users and professionals, offering practical advice and access to specialist help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A former ketamine user, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared: &#8220;I\u2019ve been using ketamine for 20 years, but it wasn\u2019t until the last few years I saw how badly it was affecting my partner\u2014and the chaos it caused in my life.
