A Sheffield-based women\u2019s running club is stepping up to the challenge of the Sheffield Half Marathon in support of Weston Park Cancer Charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Girls Run Sheffield, founded just ten months ago by local runner Grace Owen-Davies, has grown into a thriving community, providing a safe and inclusive space for women of all abilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grace started the club after realising that running could often feel isolating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said: \u201cI really wanted to create a club that brings girls together, not just to improve physical health but to support each other mentally as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMaking friends as a young woman can be tough, especially after university when people move away, so this club is about running, friendship, and fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearly ten members have signed up to run for Weston Park Cancer Charity, while others are taking part for different causes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For most, it will be their first-ever race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe fact that Weston Park reached out to us was incredible. It\u2019s a Sheffield-based cancer treatment facility that means a lot to many of our members, so we were all eager to help,\u201d Grace explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club has not set a specific fundraising target but is determined to raise as much as possible. To boost donations, a friend is creating matching scrunchies in Weston Park\u2019s signature colour, with proceeds going to the charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the idea of taking on the Sheffield Half Marathon was introduced, enthusiasm quickly spread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club hopes to raise money through online fundraising and social media campaigns while encouraging more women to get involved in running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beth Marsden, who joined Girls Run Sheffield and now co-leads the group alongside Grace, highlighted the club\u2019s commitment to inclusivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOne of our main rules is that nobody will ever be left behind or feel left out. We always have someone leading at the front and another at the back to support all paces,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
