A Sheffield Post Office in Broomhill has now been granted a 24-hour alcohol licence, despite objections from residents and local councillors with concerns about potential anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Post Office on Fulwood Road will now be selling alcohol around the clock, seven days a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the decision has sparked criticism from Councillor Brian Holmshaw, who fears it could lead to increased drinking in the area during the early hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Brian Holmshaw expressed disappointment that the business would not be working with drug and alcohol support services if issues arose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said: \u201cIt\u2019s disappointing that they wouldn\u2019t be working with any drug and alcohol services if the licence became a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coun Holmshaw also raised concerns about the potential impact on surrounding areas, including Broomhill, Broomhall, and Crookesmoor, which are close to the city centre and have a large student population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is, of course, a need for a post office in Broomhill. That is necessary and important. I just think, and many residents believe, that it\u2019s not necessary to have alcohol sales all through the night, seven days a week,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some residents have echoed these concerns, fearing that the extended licence could lead to late-night disturbances and public drinking, that the area could become a second ‘West Street’. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Others, however, believe the additional availability of alcohol will be convenient for those living in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The post office was approached for comment, but declined on this occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite opposition, the licence has been approved, and the business will now be able to sell alcohol at any time of day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It remains to be seen whether the concerns of residents and councillors will materialise, but Holmshaw has urged authorities to monitor the situation closely.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
