As Gen Z cuts back on drinking, brewers have adapted to shifting consumer preferences, changing the priorities of the beer industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dubbed the \u2018sober generation\u2019 Gen Z has been drinking less on average than their parents and grandparents, with one in four abstaining from alcohol entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheffield\u2019s annual \u201cBeer Week\u201d has commemorated this new lifestyle and the movement away from regional giants to smaller local breweries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The week-long celebration holds open days, festivals and bar-tap takeovers throughout the region, as well as the unique opportunity to meet independent brewers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ideal Day Family Brewery attended one of these events, co-owner James Rylance said: \u201cAs a brewer and as a person, I\u2019m far more interested in people who drink less \u2013 it\u2019s about quality and thoughtfulness.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
