It&#8217;s about raising awareness of the condition but it&#8217;s also showing to Tom just what the spirit of rugby means and just how much the community and the club is ready to support him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/d5a08c4f-01d0-4f99-81e0-83818d01831f-1024x550.jpg\" alt=\"Two blue rugby shirts that have been designed for the fundraiser event\" class=\"wp-image-63795\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/d5a08c4f-01d0-4f99-81e0-83818d01831f-980x527.jpg 980w, https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/d5a08c4f-01d0-4f99-81e0-83818d01831f-480x258.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The design of the fundraiser shirts that have raised \u00a3530<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hallamshire will compete in a tournament against Davies\u2019 former club Sheffield Medics, Sheffield Medics Old Boys and his boyhood club Sutton Coldfield on the charity day in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>50% of funds raised will be directed towards the South Yorkshire branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, with the rest going towards the event itself and Mr Davies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a testimonial on the JustGiving page, Mr Davies\u2019 partner Alex Ross said: \u201cTom was always an extremely talented sportsperson, and he now enthusiastically cheers on the rugby teams who he can no longer play for. It&#8217;s incredibly comforting to see how the rugby community and those beyond have gathered around to support Tom and for him to see how very loved he is. I am supremely proud of him and grateful to everyone rooting for him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is inspired by the Slater Cup, named after former Gloucester and Leicester rugby player Ed Slater, which is competed for twice a season when the clubs play one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Rigby added: \u201cI think the best way to sort of honour him and the best way to show him just how much he means is by putting on a big celebration of rugby, a whole day event, chucking the ball around, playing some good looking rugby, some entertaining rugby.
