Sheffield Campus Coalition for Palestine (SCCP), held a demo at the University of Sheffield’s Student Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The coalition gathered outside the Careers Fair yesterday protesting against the University\u2019s hosting arms companies which are involved in the Palestine-Israel war. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Protestors were calling for an “education free of genocide, free of arms companies, and that they should not be on campus”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A protester leafleting said: \u201cThese are huge companies that are involved in engineering machines of death, exported not only to Israel but around the world.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Protestors also spoke on the irony of “not holding tobacco companies at the fair because of the negative health effects of smoking but at the same time happy to hold the likes of Boeing and BA Systems”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
19- year-old, Dolly Kombate, a University of Sheffield History Student, who attended the protest said \u201cIt was around 50 people. A group of people came and had big banners and microphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“They weren\u2019t blocking people off. They were in front, so you had to pass them to go in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dolly said protestors were blocking entrance to the fair, sitting and standing, chanting that a free Palestine means \u2018a Palestine from the river to the sea.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The University had a security presence and police were also present. A protester said \u2018because this has happened before, they had come prepared.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Demonstrators said that the institution is “one of the most complicit universities in the genocide in Gaza”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
