The NHS is urging people to join their research programmes, in recognition of International Clinical Trials day, which is celebrated from the 20th May to the 7th June. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They want anyone over 18, regardless of their medical conditions, to join their free service, which they say will help develop the vital research needed to cure diseases like cancer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mini-campaigns which will target smaller audiences and under-represented communities will run until April 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Sunday 18th May, NHS staff based in Sheffield appeared in Weston Park during the May Fayre, to promote their research programmes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their stall included interactive family-friendly activities, including a mock clinical trial, mimicked using a tap and bottled water, and a hands-on activity for the public to test their lab skills. The research team say that they will be releasing a podcast in July in response to the questions members of the public asked at the event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The international day is celebrated annually on the 20th May to honour the anniversary of the first modern clinical trials carried out by James Lind in 1747, who discovered that citrus fruits were effective in the treatment of scurvy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) launched a 4-step plan to engage people in \u2018Be Part of Research\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
