Heavy rainfall in Sheffield has caused a sink hole to appear on Dore Road as a result of high water pressure weakening the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The road remains closed while crews further investigate the cause of the sink hole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ian Cooper, a local resident, said: \u201cThe hole was about eight feet deep and there\u2019s a stream running all the way down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWith the amount of rain we\u2019ve had, it has swept soil away so it’s not surprising there\u2019s a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Cooper added: \u201cIt\u2019s not like a pot hole that people can just repair. It\u2019s a fairly significant job to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents are still able to access properties but diversions remain in place for drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, there seems to be an upside to this otherwise inconvenience. Mr Cooper said: \u201cIt\u2019s great to have a quiet road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m fed up of people speeding onto our road, doing 60 miles an hour up and down here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also claimed that cars seem to instead be speeding on neighbouring roads, Cavendish Road and Ashfurlong Avenue, which he finds \u201cridiculous\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There has been no specified times on when the road may be reopened, but a spokesperson for highways maintenance provider Amey suggested it would be no earlier than Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
