{"id":66879,"date":"2026-02-19T09:36:41","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T09:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/?p=66879"},"modified":"2026-02-20T09:07:03","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T09:07:03","slug":"free-sports-bras-and-fittings-to-be-trialled-in-sheffields-secondary-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/02\/19\/free-sports-bras-and-fittings-to-be-trialled-in-sheffields-secondary-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Free sports bras and fittings to be trialled in Sheffield\u2019s secondary schools"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An initiative to provide free annual sports bras and fittings to 16-18 year old girls could go on trial in six Sheffield secondary schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosie Halsall, 18, from Upperthorpe, Sheffield has been campaigning for this scheme to boost female participation in sports and protect their long-term health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miss Halsall, who competed for Team GB at the 2023 Junior Roller Derby World Cup, met with Abtisam Mohamed, Labour MP for Sheffield Central earlier this month to discuss her idea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It was brilliant to meet with Rosie, who\u2019s campaigning to get free sports bras and fittings for secondary school girls everywhere. She\u2019s already got the attention of six secondary schools in Sheffield and I\u2019m looking forward to joining her on her journey! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6HXNlhDbc0\">pic.twitter.com\/6HXNlhDbc0<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Abtisam Mohamed (@Abtisam_Mohamed) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Abtisam_Mohamed\/status\/2021894606086926699?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 12, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Miss Halsall said: \u201cOur main goal is to prove that on a small level, [the scheme] works because obviously there\u2019s a cost we wouldn\u2019t want to have if it didn\u2019t work out.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really lucky to have people who are willing to financially fund it and we\u2019re currently trying to get that kind of contract and partnership to work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the long-term, the scheme could relieve costs for the NHS by acting as a preventative measure against health conditions like osteoporosis &#8211; a health condition which weakens the bones and is highly prevalent in women. The disease costs the NHS \u00a34.6 billion annually (UK Parliament, 2022).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miss Halsall said: \u201cIf [the scheme] was to go national, hopefully the short-term cost would be outweighed by the cost that it saves on the NHS. derby.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen it comes to this campaign, it is about making sure no matter who you are, no matter how big your community is, you will always have the support to be able to
