Many Sheffield residents have accused the Sheffield City Council (SCC) Local Plan of not being thorough enough with their allocation of unused urban land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of these residents includes Pierre Laubscher who said: “Not including all potential Brownfield sites that could be unlocked before assessing Green Belt requirements is a disgrace”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response the SCC said: \u201cWe fully accept that some residents do disagree strongly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHowever, the Local Plan is important for the whole city and will be a comprehensive development framework for the city until 2039.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We need to make sure that the Council can robustly and legally deliver that plan, whilst allowing everyone the opportunity to have their say.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Updates to the local plan have been announced following the \u2018City Goals Phase 2, Sheffield Stronger Together: Delivering on the City Goals\u2019 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City Goals<\/a> are 18 set ambitions which describe the city’s aspirations and values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting showcased the progress of the work that has taken place over the last 18 months, since the goals were first initiated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jonathan Clifton, Council Director of Strategy and Communications said: \u201cThe goals aim for a fairer, greener and more inclusive city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They are not just owned by the council, but by the city as a whole”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thousands of residents have continues to object to the proposal to develop 3,500 homes, on 14 green belt sites across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HM Planning Inspectorate said that Sheffield City Council’s Local Plan document was “sound”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The council will now hold further consultation events, but campaign groups told us that the outcome “feels like a bad dream.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Council leader Tom Hunt said this consultation stage is “an important opportunity” for residents to comment on the proposed modifications before the inspectors issue their final report to the council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The consultation resumes in March and inspectors will consider any public responses in their final report. There will then be a six-week period will commence for council approval before the conclusion of the process in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An additional meeting to oppose the plans will be held by the ‘Save Chapeltown, Eccelsfield, & Grenoside Greenbelt’ group on 5th March at the Grenoside Community Centre.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
