For its 20th anniversary, the festival will be hosted at the Showroom Cinema, and will be holding a huge number of events this weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The film festival has grown exponentially throughout the years, gaining popularity amongst film makers and anyone with a passion for sport of every kind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Matt Heason, the festival’s Founder and Director, said: “People seem to really embrace the spirit of ShAFF, it’s a nice gathering of like-minded people.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each year Mr Heason and co-founder Frit Tam watch between 200-300 film submissions, which they narrow down to about 100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These films are approximately 25 minutes long, and screened throughout the weekend and awards are provided to the best films, such as ‘Best film made in Sheffield.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Heason said: “We have helped quite a few film makers over the years get started on their film careers.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They have a range of different screenings, from adrenaline films to more family friendly films, encouraging everyone to come and be involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He started the festival by initially running independent film nights at the cinema which were ‘really successful,’ which led him to the idea of the weekend-long festival. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: “I think on Sunday night when I’m standing there after the best of ShAFF screening, which we always finish with, I’m sure it will be quite emotional.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The festival will hold a number of events aside from the screenings which anyone can attend, with sponsors such as Alpkit, Rab and The Woodland Trust also holding their own exhibitions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The films are published online after the screenings where they can also be watched for free. <\/p>\n\n\n\n What are some of the events?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n There are a large number of free events alongside the ticketed ones, ensuring that everyone can get involved. These include: orienteering, a sauna, photo exhibitions, ski slope, live music and a big party on Saturday night to celebrate the twentieth anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
