A 25-year-old man has been arrested following an attempted rape of an elderly woman in a popular Sheffield park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extra patrols are being carried out in the Shiregreen area, after police received reports at 7:26am on Wednesday 25 March that a man was assaulting and trying to rape a woman as she walked through the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim, a woman in her 70s, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheffield North East Neighbourhoods Inspector Alec Gibbons said: “The victim is receiving support from officers and trained medical professionals, and we have put extra patrols in place in the local area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We understand that news of this incident will cause concern in the local community, and I would urge anyone with questions or concerns to please speak to our officers on the ground – they are there to help you and keep you safe.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Yorkshire Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and speak to officers on patrol in Concord Park about the incident or get in touch by calling 101. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
