A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control, causing injury and assault on a council worker and a police officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On April 15, at 3.30pm, The South Yorkshire Police received a report that a worker had been bitten by dogs while attending a property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is alleged that the man in charge of the dogs failed to control them, allowing them to escape the property and bite the police officer, which caused injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Inspector Jon Greaves from the South Yorkshire police, said: \u201cWe are working hard to safeguard our communities from the threat and fear that dogs can pose and educate owners, but people also need to act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEvery call we receive into our control room and every incident that officers attend is risk assessed, and if we believe the dog involved to pose a risk to those living in the home or the wider community, we will seize the dog, until a decision has been made.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The worker suffered injuries on their arm and buttock, and required hospital treatment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The officer required treatment for the injuries and had to retire early from duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three dogs, all believed to be Doberman breeds, have been seized and remain in police kennels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Inspector Jon Greaves also said:\u201dSeizing a dog is not a decision we take lightly but people\u2019s safety comes first. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe know that the majority of dog owners are responsible and have their pet\u2019s best interests at heart, but the small minority who don\u2019t need to step up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLittle changes can make a big difference.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man arrested has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Yorkshire Police has said:\u201dIf you need help with your dog\u2019s behaviour or training, the Blue Cross and Dogs Trust charities offer free support and guidance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
