{"id":70316,"date":"2026-04-24T09:50:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T09:50:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/?p=70316"},"modified":"2026-04-24T10:09:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T10:09:13","slug":"sharrow-vale-market-sometimes-i-wet-my-what","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/04\/24\/sharrow-vale-market-sometimes-i-wet-my-what\/","title":{"rendered":"Sharrow Vale Market: Sometimes I wet my&#8230; what?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The triannual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/people\/Sharrow-Vale-Market\/100068617323743\/#\">Sharrow Vale Market<\/a> took place on 19 April and was packed with guests and locally owned businesses, selling everything from beer to arts and crafts and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organised by volunteers from the <a href=\"http:\/\/sharrowvalemarket.co.uk\/\">Sharrow Vale Community Association<\/a> (SVCA), the market hosts around 100 stalls and is a staple in the communities it supports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One business captured the attention of passers-by with its surprising name that forces you to do a double take: Sometimes I Wet My Plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded by Claire Shepherd, 49, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/1CXZr9scKk\/?mibextid=wwXIfr&amp;ref=3\">Sometimes I Wet My Plants<\/a> is a creative name for her business that sells house plants, air plants and terrariums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: &#8220;I quit my stressful job two years ago and decided to do something I loved instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The ethos is low maintenance hence the name because I only need to wet my plants sometimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Sharrow Vale is my absolute favourite market. The vibe and atmosphere is fabulous, and I get to meet and chat to lots of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s lovely to see familiar faces who we&#8217;ve met at markets before.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fpermalink.php%3Fstory_fbid%3Dpfbid0f5SMf5hWQLYp2Gn3nUyxtFLLuFCyMRqwKEEj19H5HeMapQgUaw6Yu3faxX5J58tKl%26id%3D61552594004631&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"665\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The boom of small businesses and community markets could be due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/covid-19-record-number-of-new-businesses-predicted-as-uk-comes-out-of-coronavirus-lockdown-12236841\">Sky News reported a record number of new business start ups<\/a> during the lockdown of 2021, and community markets have been excellent places for such businesses to thrive since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faye Waple, the creative behind Au Faye, a business that sells &#8216;hand painted delights&#8217;, has had a similar journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: &#8220;Like many people, lockdown gave me the time to start painting again, inspired by what was around me in my garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I began creating bright and bold watercolours full of character and humour, and that&#8217;s when I got the idea to start my own business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been lucky enough to trade at Sharrow Vale market before, and had an excellent day trading there last week, selling face-to-face, chatting with customers, and talking about my work.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, such markets could not take place without the volunteers behind them, and attendees and stall holders flooded to social media with praise after the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waple said: &#8220;The team behind Sharrow Vale market do a fabulous job organising the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s fantastic to see funds from the market going back into the local area and supporting the community.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DXWO_wLiEd8\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF;
