FlyDoncaster have raised hopes across South Yorkshire with continued efforts to bring back the airport despite a delay to key funding decisions made by Doncaster Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A loan for \u00a357million was previously approved\u00a0by Doncaster City Council to aid the reopening, however now 28 Reform\u00a0councillors have voted to revisit the decision after Councillor Jason Charity claimed his party were ill informed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than 50 people are currently employed by FlyDoncaster, Christian Foster, Director at FlyDoncaster, said \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to take this next step in the journey towards opening Doncaster Sheffield Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Our team is committed to delivering a seamless, efficient and premium experience for both passengers and operators, and the partners we work with are vital to the airport\u2019s future success\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Local Democracy Reporting Service has verified an email shared with councillors and staff, which explained the meeting to revote on funding decisions would be pushed back to 11 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This comes after an announcement earlier this week that FlyDoncaster, the operator of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, has hired Andy Hudson as head of air traffic services, Kofi Yeboah as head of IT and Sam Kind as head of finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Social media groups such as #SaveDSA, which shares daily reports of information shared about the airport, shows how important the Doncastar Sheffield airport will be for the local area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One social media user shared the need for the project’s completion, \u201cThis is so important for the long term further of Doncaster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Others questioned why the airport was not fought for in the beginning, another user added \u201cIf this is so simple, why didn’t the push come to keep the airport open, this sounds like a political tool not what’s best for Doncaster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Backed by City of Doncaster Council and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, it is claimed Doncaster Sheffield Airport is expected to generate \u00a35bn for the regional economy by 2050, underlying its importance to the local council.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
