Green Party candidate Mustafa Ahmed is now the councillor for Burngreave despite numerous party signs being vandalised in the area during the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Party signs and Posters outside homes from Ecclesall to Burngreave were smashed and ripped only days before the local elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Ecclesall, it was reported that around ten signs were ripped apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Councillor Mustafa Ahmed for Burngreave, believes that the attacks were provoked by the success of the party in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ahmed said, ahead of his win: “I’m feeling quite positive about Green winning. It’s not affecting me because a lot of people are standing with me.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His win was confirmed today, making it a success for the Green Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The identity of the vandals have not been confirmed although he believes it to be members of opposition parties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: “We should be united together, it’s up to the community to decide who to vote for. We shouldn’t be attacking each other. I think the people responsible should change their behaviour and think about the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I think it will encourage people to vote for the Greens because no one likes this behaviour,” Ahmed said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Burngreave ward has been run by Labour councillors for the past five years. Mustafa Ahmed will be replacing Talib Hussain, who was elected in the 2023 local elections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Burngreave Ward – Live Sheffield local election Results<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Ahead of the election results, Ahmed said: “I want to say a massive thanks to the residents for the support I have got from them.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Attacks on party signs have been reported across the UK. With the Isle of Wight also reporting Green Party signs being targeted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n National results so far have shown Reform taking the lead up by 479 seats, with Labour taking the biggest loss, losing 322 seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Green party is also up by 50 seats with party leader Zack Polanski celebrating the ‘death of two party politics.’ <\/p>\n\n\n\n So far only five out of 129 seats in Scotland have been revealed with the Scottish National Party taking the lead.
