A study involving the University of Sheffield has found that there was an increase in emergency service use in areas where pubs were allowed to open late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The study, which was carried out in Aberdeen, found that ambulance call outs rose by 11.4% over weekends, with reported crime rising by 8.5%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colin Angus, Professor of Alcohol Policy at the University of Sheffield’s School of Medicine and Population Health, said: <\/strong>\u201cThis research is particularly important, given the government\u2019s plans to extend pub opening hours in England and Wales. Our findings indicate that such changes are likely to have significant negative consequences…”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
