Sheffield\u2019s longest-serving councillor has been named as the city\u2019s new Lord Mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Andrew Sangar MBE has served on the council since 1991 and he becomes the Sheffield’s 129th Lord Mayor.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At Sheffield Town Hall, earlier today, councillors unanimously appointed Councillor Sangar, who is a member of the Liberal Democrats and represents Fulwood.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was previously the deputy Lord Mayor and has held a number of positions on the council, including being chair of the performance review committee, cabinet member for children\u2019s services and the environment and chair of south west local area committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his first speech as Lord Mayor, he said: \u201cSheffield has a fantastic future ahead of it. It\u2019s going to be a big year ahead.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He replaced Councillor Safiya Saeed, who was Sheffield\u2019s first black muslim woman to serve as Lord Mayor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
