Hosted this year by BBC Radio Sheffield presenter Ellie Colton, the event has added personal significance after her father was diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimer\u2019s disease last year at the age of 59.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The walk is inspired by one woman living with dementia whose lifelong love of red shoes became a powerful memory trigger, helping her stay connected to her past. Organisers say the colour red is known to stimulate brain activity and attract attention in people with dementia, even helping to encourage appetite in later stages of the condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants are encouraged to wear red shoes or collect complimentary red shoe covers on the day, although organisers stress red footwear is not compulsory. Every walker will instead receive an official Red Shoe Walk t-shirt when signing in between 9am and 9.30am at the Summer Beach Club event village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A warm-up session will begin at 9.30am before the walk officially starts at 10am. The route is expected to take between 20 and 45 minutes depending on walking pace and is described as flat, easy and fully accessible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Early bird tickets are priced at \u00a35 for adults, \u00a33 for children and \u00a314 for a family of four, while under-threes can attend free. Organisers ask participants to aim to raise at least \u00a350 through sponsorship, although there is no minimum fundraising requirement to take part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Registration closes at midnight on Tuesday 28 July, with no sign-ups available on the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
