{"id":72394,"date":"2026-08-24T11:41:48","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T11:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/?p=72394"},"modified":"2026-08-24T11:41:56","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T11:41:56","slug":"sheffield-flower-festival-brings-flowers-creativity-and-community-together","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shefnews.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/08\/24\/sheffield-flower-festival-brings-flowers-creativity-and-community-together\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield Flower Festival brings flowers, creativity and community together"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sheffield\u2019s first Flower Festival brought together flower lovers, growers and creatives across two venues in Neepsend and Kelham Island on Sunday 23 August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event was organised by Bloom Sheffield, a community flower garden in Heeley that provides a safe space for women and non-binary people to learn new skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The festival took place at The Mowbray and The Victoria, offering visitors a day of flowers, workshops, a variety of&nbsp;talks and local produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At The Mowbray, visitors could explore a flower market showcasing Yorkshire-grown blooms, alongside stalls selling ceramics, candles, botanical art and houseplants. The Victoria hosted floristry demonstrations, talks and creative workshops, including a small-space growing talk from <em>Gardeners\u2019 World<\/em> presenter Rekha Mistry and an Ikebana demonstration from Junko Popham.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fpermalink.php%3Fstory_fbid%3Dpfbid0HwJ9TBfAioY5JzRNPUdHXr5v8LPSm8jALuZoknarUZP3oRFHkReJt4YnXEo1Hwi5l%26id%3D100064541542461&#038;show_text=true&#038;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"735\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bloom Sheffield founder and company director Kendall Turner said the idea for the festival had \u201cbeen in my head for a while\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI really wanted an opportunity to bring amazing creative people together to share their love of flowers,\u201d she said. \u201cSheffield has such a rich culture of growing and creating, so it seemed perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Turner said the event was also an opportunity to bring the community together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAt Bloom Sheffield, we work with lots of different people from the community, who all have a shared love and passion for flowers and gardening,\u201d she said. \u201cIt feels so special to be able to bring people together and celebrate the beauty of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said the response from florists and businesses had been \u201camazing\u201d, with \u201ccommunity over competition\u201d becoming the festival\u2019s motto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Turner hoped visitors would leave having \u201clearned something new\u201d, whether through a workshop, talk or discovering \u201ca new dahlia variety that they\u2019ve never seen before\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bloom Sheffield began seven years ago with the aim of creating a welcoming space for women and non-binary people to grow flowers and learn from one another.
