An outpouring of grief and anger has been displayed as a result of Sarah Everard’s death.

Ms Everard, a 33-year-old marketing executive from York, was allegedly murdered by a police officer in South London while walking home on the evening of 3 March 2021.

However, due to the pandemic, the decision was made by the High Court to make any vigil nationwide for remembering Ms Everard unlawful.

The organization planning Sheffield’s vigil has postponed the event after being threatened with a £10, 000 fine by South Yorkshire police.

A statement from Reclaim Sheffield Streets said: “We’re heartbroken and angered with the authorities’ decision.

“The fact they can’t see the legitimate reasons why women need to take a public stand against violence is shameful.“
