An unlikely Milton Keynes runner is planning to complete the Sheffield half marathon in a fundraising effort for her aunt and best friend, both of whom have Multiple Sclerosis.
Roisin Thorburn, Anna James’ best friend ‘who always puts a smile on her face’, has been informed that she will run the Sheffield half marathon in her honour on 26 March. Thorburn was diagnosed with MS two years ago.
Although the 20-year-old, who has known Roisin since she was nine, is not a natural runner, Anna is determined to complete the 13.2-mile race for her and in memory of her aunt Adelaide James, who recently passed away.
Despite her continuous battle with MS, Adelaide travelled the world and became an amazing nurse, caring for so many people and saving lives.
Anna said: “Adelaide is one of my biggest inspirations in life and taught me that I can do anything I put my mind to – including running a half marathon.”
Anna has been able to see the first-hand effects of the disease and the difficulties it can cause in people’s lives.
Nevertheless, she has been enormously motivated by Roisin and Adelaide’s resolve to continue living with such a passion for life despite their battles with MS.
She said: “Roisin has been a light in my life and has so much love for life and inspires me daily to do what I love and smile.”
Anna will be running in an effort to raise funds for her Just Giving page with an initial target of £250.
