Sheffield’s Fargate is undergoing a revamp to increase footfall and bring life back to the once bustling city centre.

In 2020, Sheffield City Council received a £15.8 million bid from the government’s Future High Streets Fund, which will go towards Fargate’s revitalisation.

The council now plans to carry out a phased approach to the revamp, which will span 18 months.

The current phase of development includes a multi-story events and exhibition space, new pocket parks and walking and cycling routes.

Local businesses will also benefit from this bid, with plans to revamp the historic Montgomery Theatre and Orchard Square in the works.

The container park, which was set up in Fargate in October 2022, has had to make way for construction after just a three-month stint in the city centre.
