The victim of a stabbing in Barnsley in the early hours of Wednesday morning has been named by South Yorkshire Police

Lazarus Makono died at the scene following the stabbing, which saw officers called at 1:21am on Wednesday 21 February to reports of a stabbing at a house on Cooperative Street, Goldthorpe.

Senior Investigating Officer Ben Wood said: “I want to assure the wider community and the public that we are working around the clock to work out exactly what happened on the day and the circumstances around the incident.”

Two men, aged 27 and 28 have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

A man, aged 32 and two women aged 20 and 25 were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, and have been released on police bail.

Senior Investigating Officer Ben Wood said: “Lazarus’ family are heartbroken and grieving during this very difficult time, and my thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.”
